    What It’s About

A deadly shooting attack occurred in Tel Aviv’s Jaffa quarter, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries. Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos as gunmen fired indiscriminately at civilians.

    Why It Matters

This incident further heightens the tension in Israel amidst increasing security threats. The swift response from Israeli security forces prevented further casualties and demonstrated their efficacy in handling such critical situations.

    Eyewitness Testimonies

    Nadia’s Account

Nadia, a Jaffa resident, was merely cycling down the boulevard when the attack happened. “When I reached the Ehrlich station, gunfire erupted. I threw my bike and hid behind an electrical box. I saw two men with long guns firing continuously. They asked a man near the barbershop if he was Arab, and upon his confirmation, they moved on,” she recalled.

    Moti’s Observations

Moti, the owner of a nearby kiosk, described the relentless gunfire. “We heard endless rounds in every direction. We rushed outside in panic and saw figures running down the street, probably the attackers. It was hard to watch,” he recounted. Roy, who was shopping nearby, noted, “The gunmen fired indiscriminately at a shop. I saw them fleeing toward northern Jaffa. The street was strewn with injured people.”

    Mohammed El-Sayed’s Experience

Mohammed, a florist, witnessed the light rail stopping at his shop. “A woman got off the train screaming. Inside, I saw a wounded baby and other injured and dead people. It’s a terrible feeling to witness this scene,” he said. “It’s a sad day. Everyone was heading home for the holiday but didn’t make it.”

    Security Response

Israel Police Commissioner Daniel Levy referred to the attack as “a difficult event,” emphasizing that no prior intelligence warned of it. “We know the identities of the gunmen and are handling it with the Shin Bet security service.”

Details from Tel Aviv District Police Commander Peretz Amar

Amar explained that the attackers boarded the light rail, opened fire inside, and continued shooting on the street. “The attackers were neutralized by rail security guards, the Special Operations Unit, and police officers.”

    Casualties and Investigation

The shooting on Jerusalem Boulevard left seven people dead and 16 others injured, some critically. Preliminary information indicates that the gunmen targeted light rail passengers first. The attackers were shot dead by security forces. The wounded were transported to Wolfson Medical Center and Sourasky Medical Center in Tel Aviv. No additional gunmen were found following concerns at the Sharon Hotel in Herzliya.
