What it is about
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have intensified their operations against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, targeting terrorist sites and rocket launchers. In a series of precise strikes, at least two top Hezbollah commanders and over a dozen of their operatives have been neutralized.
Why it matters
The ongoing strikes are crucial in defending Israeli civilians from imminent threats. By targeting and dismantling Hezbollah’s launching capabilities, Israel is taking significant steps to ensure the safety and security of its territory and people.
Details
According to IDF spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, “Dozens of Israeli Air Force aircraft are currently striking terrorist targets and rocket launchers to remove the threat to Israeli civilians.” The IDF’s aggressive action has resulted in approximately 400 Hezbollah sites being targeted, significantly debilitating the group’s operational capabilities.
Rear Adm. Hagari cautioned Israeli citizens: “Rockets and other threats may be launched toward Israeli territory in the near future. We ask you to strictly follow the Home Front Command’s defensive guidelines. We are in the midst of a time of warfare, so it is important to remain vigilant and alert.”
Preemptive Strikes
On Friday, the IDF successfully eliminated Ibrahim Aqil, head of Hezbollah’s Operations Unit, along with 15 commanders from Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Unit. In a coordinated effort, Israeli intelligence pinpointed the location of these top operatives who were planning attacks on Israeli soil.
“They met to plan terror attacks and infiltrations into Israeli territory, but we knew where they were, and preempted them – eliminating them in a precise and powerful operation conducted by the Intelligence Directorate and the Israeli Air Force,” said Hagari.
Government Response
In light of the escalating situation, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called for an emergency meeting of the special Security Cabinet at the IDF headquarters in Tel Aviv.
