Israel Conducts Major Airstrikes on Hezbollah Targets in Lebanon

    Published on

    What is happening

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Monday morning that it had launched extensive airstrikes targeting Hezbollah positions in Lebanon. The IDF warned Lebanese civilians to move away from locations being used by the Iran-backed terror group to store weapons.

    Why it matters

This operation is critical in countering Hezbollah’s ongoing threats against Israel. The Iran-backed group has been attempting to escalate violence along the northern border, endangering Israeli civilians and communities. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant emphasized the importance of public composure and compliance with Home Front Command directives for the successes of these operations.

    Strikes and Impact

By 12:30 a.m., the Israeli Air Force (IAF) had struck over 300 Hezbollah targets. The military stated that dozens of fighter jets participated in these operations. Lebanese sources reported casualties, including a civilian shepherd and members of his family. Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) noted that over 80 strikes were conducted in just half an hour, focusing on southern Lebanon and the eastern Beqaa Valley region.

    Warnings to Civilians

IDF’s Arabic spokesperson Avichay Adraee strongly urged Lebanese civilians to distance themselves from Hezbollah sites, conveying how the terror group values its weapons over the lives of civilians. The IDF even sent text messages and made calls to inform them of imminent strikes on households harboring Hezbollah weapons.

    Recent Escalations by Hezbollah

Hezbollah had drastically increased its rocket fire, launching approximately 85 rockets deep into northern Israel on Sunday, following a severe counter-terrorism operation attributed to Israel. These rockets led to severe disruptions and casualties within Israel, prompting a robust defensive response.

    Footage of Hezbollah’s Activities

IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari presented previously unreleased footage showing Hezbollah preparing to launch a cruise missile from within a civilian home in southern Lebanon. Targeted successfully, this video showcased the group’s disregard for civilian lives by hiding among civilians.

    Importance of Public Composure

Defense Minister Gallant underscored that the war’s success partly relies on the public maintaining calmness and following official guidelines. This home front resilience allows the IDF to sustain and obtain achievements against the enemy.

    U.S. and International Engagement

Gallant also held discussions with U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, briefing him on the evolving threat landscape posed by Hezbollah and Iran proxies. Alignment and support from the U.S. underscore international cooperation against shared threats in the region.

    Opposition Support

Opposition Leader Yair Lapid expressed his support for the IDF’s actions, urging Israeli forces to continue their efforts until all northern residents can safely return to their homes.
