IDF General Predicts Three-Year Timeline to Defeat Hamas in Gaza

    What it’s about

Decisive Military Strategy Required to Eradicate Hamas Presence

In a recent interview with 103FM, IDF Brig.-Gen. (res.) Effi Eitam emphasized that the Israel-Hamas war requires a duration of three years to achieve its military objectives. Eitam highlighted the necessity of completely removing what he described as the Hamas “forest” in Gaza.

    Why it matters

Commitment to National Security and Stability

The past 48 hours of the conflict have witnessed some of the most intense confrontations, resulting in the loss of 12 IDF soldiers. This situation underscores the rigorous and extended effort required to neutralize the Hamas threat and bring sustainable peace and security to Israel’s borders.

    Details

Eitam articulated that the roadmap for the IDF involves a rigorous and comprehensive approach to dismantle Hamas. “Everyone who carries a weapon [in Gaza] must die. All weapons must be seized. Nearly the entirety of the Gaza Strip is in our hands, and we can move about it relatively freely,” Eitam stated.

He projected the timeline of the conflict, noting that one year is already behind us, a subsequent year focuses on resolving the situation in Lebanon, and another year addressing concerns related to Iran.

Removing the Hamas ‘Forest’ in Gaza

Eitam used the metaphor of a “forest” to describe the entrenchment of Hamas over the past two decades. “For 20 years we have been complacent. What could have been a simple weed to remove is now an entire forest,” he said. His strategy hinges on the complete eradication of armed factions in Gaza, ensuring that all weaponry is confiscated and combatants incapacitated.

“Our goals are simple, measurable, and attainable: Everyone holding a weapon, whether an RPG or a Kalashnikov, must die. All weapons must be seized…. this is happening almost every day and it is inevitable,” Eitam concluded, reiterating Israel’s firm resolve in dismantling armed aggressions posing threats to its security.
