Loss of Hero
The Israel Defense Forces have disclosed the tragic loss of Sgt.-Maj. (res.) Shimon Yehoshua Asulin, who was killed during a conflict in the Gaza Strip. The 24-year-old serviceman was a resident of Beit Shemesh.
Military Operation
Serving in the 924th Combat Engineer Battalion, part of the respected 10th “Harel” Brigade, Asulin’s unit was actively involved in operations in the southern sector of Gaza.
Why It Matters
This tragedy contributes to the worrying toll of IDF personnel lives lost since hostilities increased following the Hamas attacks that began on October 7 of the last year. Asulin was one of the 562 members heavily mourned by the nation.
Asulin’s Commemoration
In honor of his service and ultimate sacrifice, the IDF has posthumously elevated Asulin from the rank of sergeant to sergeant-major. Family, friends, and fellow soldiers will gather to say their farewells at his funeral scheduled at the military cemetery on Mt. Herzl, Jerusalem.
Final Homage
The funeral for Sgt.-Maj. (res.) Asulin will be on Sunday, February 4, at 13:30. The military ceremony will serve as a somber reminder of the cost of on-going conflict and the bravery of those who serve.
